How did John the Baptist talk about Jesus’ coming in his days? Did he use fancy media tools or did he put his own person into the limelights to declare that Christ is coming? No, he didn’t. He was a humble person, living in the wilderness, not having the very best outer appearance or means of communication. And yet he was able to draw together large crowds of people. In his life and way of communicating, he emphasised not the part of the messenger, but placed emphasis on the message. And the message was (and still is) very straightforward and up-to-date. John’s message is cutting right through to the hearts of those who want to listen to God’s word: the good news of repentance and forgiveness of sins through Jesus Christ.
